The Burkina Faso

Landlocked in West Africa, Burkina Faso has several factors favouring ethnobotany :

  • Climatic diversity, plant biodiversity from the Sahel in the north to the gallery forests in the south-west, numerous ethnic groups who have preserved their traditions and knowledge of plants,
  • Positive reception from customary chiefdom and availability of traditional knowledge holders,,
  • Encouraging role of administrations and institutions: Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Research and Higher Education, University of Ouagadougou, etc..
